streets of london

the streets of london are as busy as i expected. cars driving on the left side of the road, sharing space with bikers, scooters, tourists, double-decker buses, those goofy black cabs, and more. i've stopped in an internet cafe to put down a little bit about the last 18 hours or so.

despite waiting on the plane in atlanta for about an hour, the flight over to amsterdam was relatively painless. i sat next to a malaysian guy about my age who was finishing up a visit to new york and atlanta. he's one of two malaysians in charge of starting their version of teach for america. and he observed the very class of teachers that my friend julia (its so new!) is in in atlanta. crazy connection. very interesting guy and project. i'm going on less than an hour sleep but feeling fairly well prepared for the train i'm about to board and the camp tomorrow. my u.s. cell phone definitely doesn't work.

you may know that i'm posting some (more so the week of the tournament) on the-huddle.org. i started talking about having set goals for myself at worlds. and i plan to take those seriously. but these next few days are my chance to slow down, watch, and vacay. i started asking locals on the train here in london about how to get around and what to do. one kindly offered me a tube map then proceeded to nearly miss her stop. when i said "isn't this your stop?" she jumped up crying "shit!" and ran off. but she recommended some social scene stuff and museums.

so i'll check back in around the time the u.s. and england soccer games go on this weekend. gotta run. time's running out at the internet cafe.
