Lily joins the family

A baby's been developing for some 8 months in my cousin's belly. And now she's alive and well outside the belly.

Little Lily has nails. She has a belly button. And, as my mom loved to point out, Lily can scream!

She was born at 9:55pm last night at Grady hospital, 6 pounds 11 ounces. Here are some pictures from the saga.

In the waiting room, the dad-to-be, my cousin’s husband, is on the right. And my dad, the great-uncle-to-be, on the left:

Proof that we waited for a while, I had time to take a picture of the waiting room door sign:

The phone switches hands. But the waiting game remains:

And the ironic warning, telling visitors not to take the magazines from an already empty magazine rack:

This is the infant warmer table before the baby was born:

About 30 minutes after the news that the baby was delivered, great-uncle and I got to visit. Dad tries to get her to cry for grandma through the phone:

Lily, up close with the cutest hat ever:

Up close with dad touching her arm:

That's it for now :) I'll try to get back over to the hospital later today for a quick hello.

She's beautiful, Ben! It really is a precious thing to be an aunt/uncle. It's been one of the best things in my life so far. You're going to be an amazing uncle. Enjoy every moment you can - they really do grow up fast!
