NEw YOrk CiTY

Yesterday I woke up in Brooklyn to the sound of Frankie's meows at the bedroom door. After opening the door, the cat sprinted into my bed and acted 100% of the cuddle monkey my sister promised in her note about staying at her place.

Near Prospect Park and the Downtown-Flatbush 2 train lies my sister's place. The cat had meowed at 7:15 in the morning; and I reluctantly got up after only 4 hours of sleep.

I had a couple hours before brunch, set with two GW Office of Community Service friends at Bubby's in Tribeca. Without once getting turned around (in hindsight, I should have looked around a litltle more to avoid getting lost later in the day, but) I got to the brunch spot easily and early.

With Ardis and Kate, we were seated in the middle of the restaurant - a place packed with couples with newborns. Including (drumroll...) John Stewart. The famed Daily Show host was finishing up brunch within an arm's reach from me and Kate, with his wife and two kids (not exactly newborns, but young guns anyhow), plus another couple.

As John Stewart was getting ready to leave, he referred to his kids as 'Silly Billies.' And had a generally comic but reserved demeanor.

This is when I excused myself to use the men's room but called my sista Becca to scream with her on the phone about it.

More New York stories coming soon...

The title of this post tries to imitate the inflexion of some southerner pronouncing this city's name.
