Archer Daniels Midland
Some junk:
1. Archer Daniels Midland made $44 billion in the last year, mostly through corn farming, processing, and food transport. And they stand to benefit from the increase in use of ethanol, an oil made from corn but heavily processed in plants which generally use coal as energy.
2. Even though prices of corn are going up, corn will still receive US subsidies and have companies creating lots of creative ways of using the excess (i.e. processing, shipping overseas as 'aid', etc). And although some say that sugar may again be used to sweeten sodas, the lobby of ADM and other agricultural conglomerates would likely not allow the US government to decrease tariffs on sugar-exporting countries' products.
3. Cows, who used to eat grass and now are largely corn-fed, would get sick from the corn were they not provided with medicine and then slaughtered after only a few months of fattening up on Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations. The US government's subsidization of our corn industry has only led us to less efficiency in relaying the earth's resources into nutritious food by way of CAFOs and such.
In fact, the less preachy I tell myself a blog should be, the further I go in the direction of dull anddirective writing. As you can see from the expression on this cow's face, my blog isn't getting any more interesting. I think I'm going to do some WordArt to be able to have a sweet looking logo for the blog. Then, I'll feel better about myself.
