Good Ideas: LA Move Series Part 6

This blog's foundations are in my move to 'la-la land,' so the pertinence is obvious. Once I had been here for a few months, I started writing about the reasons I was happy and unhappy in LA. I had begun the LA Move Series out of a kind of disdain for the city and a lack of social development here, I'm posting with mostly good news.

Employment: A year ago, I was between jobs. I had been fired from one, resigned from another, and accepted a third (the one I'm currently in) - but with vacation time in between. In Atlanta, I said some sad goodbyes, a few see-you-laters, and I came to LA with only a couple of acquaintances to greet on the left coast.

Friends: Since then, I've found a new group of ultimate players on club as well as fun-fun teams; I've met new friends through work and my neighborhood; and I have kept up with my east coast family and crew.

Travel: As far as travels go, this year already, I have:

  1. visited Atlanta twice,
  2. seen dad and mom (happy birthday tomorrow mom!) four times,
  3. been to DC and the mid-west,
  4. flown to Oregon twice,
  5. driven up the I-5 to many new places (Sacramento, Chico, Shasta Lake, and more), and
  6. visited San Diego twice (Monster beat both SD teams yesterday).
  7. And I plans to visit Massachusetts, Texas, and Atlanta between now and the end of the year, not to mention possible a Florida trip.
LA: This wild, wild west has its perks. Last Thursday, I enjoyed a show of the B Side Players and ran into my man, Percee P up on Hollywood Boulevard. [Plus, an opening act featured a bilingual R&B artist who's also in a McDonald's commercial :)] After the show, I rode the train and bus home (or, more accurately, waited a long time for a quick ride on the train and bus). So, I'm fairly mobile (defying expectations of people I spoke to about my plans to live here without a car) and enjoying southern California in a way that's manageable and really fun.

With a good weekend of Monster ultimate behind me, some fun times LA-style, upcoming travel plans, time with friends in LA and elsewhere, the LA Move Series Part 6 is happy to report good news from the western frontier.
