Will LA grow to be my city?

Let's be honest... LA won't grow on my account; but, I might grow to love it.

Over the weekend, the only growing going on has been my frustration with the search for shared, cheap housing near downtown and Koreatown. The most recent development in this four-day old (or maybe four-week old) quest is the possibility that the room I'm most interested in could have a cousin of its manager invited to live there instead of me. So, as that family makes its decision, I'm forced to a) wait and, b) ask other housing options to wait. Also building is my restlessness related to sleeping on the futon of my friend Spencer and his roommate Kristina. I feel that my sense of belonging in LA correlates to the stability that comes along with a personalized, private abode.

So, the housing search is so far a pain; what about getting around? and what's the feel of the place?

I like MacArthur Park, located around Koreatown and the Wilshire area. I sat for a full two hours in the grass and on a bench, writing postcards, reading 'The War of the Worlds,' and laying down. Good story?

Well, Hancock Park has a great pond in the middle and a great surrounding neighborhood of shops and tall buildings. The advertisements on one building read (from left to right): |DONUT|Lidia Beauty Salon|Chinese Cuisine| Atlas Mechanical|Dentistas|. These titles aren't isolated in their diversity. Korean, Chinese, Spanish, and more languages mark most buildings, shop windows, parking lots, etc.

I'm excited to get into work, although I don't know what to expect exactly. I went on vacation nearly two weeks ago. I think work can deliver a concrete connection to this city as well as the service I desire to the general community. 24 hours from now, work starts and, if I'm lucky, I have my place in this here City of Angels.
