Ultimate Peace 6 - Here we go
About 180 campers showed up in Acco today for the start of Ultimate Peace Camp 2011. For the next week, I'll be getting to know, eating and talking with, and coaching a group of 14 boys who range on age from maybe 10 to 13.
I share coaching duties with two assistants and a counselor-intraining. But I'm the only coach on this orange team who speaks Arabic, among mostly Arabic speaking campers. The kids mostly laughed at my speech this afternoon when I tried to be my own translator. But any practice is good practice and I'm getting something across.
Many of the campers know what ultimate is and how to throw and catch. Here's a picture of the huck drill we did as part of our first practice/time together (after a couple name games and ice breakers). Tonight starts evening activities, which I've helped plan. Hoping things go well and that I'm never too tired or caught up to see the fun and meaning in these days.
