Nothin

Its rare that I ever start a post having nothin to say. The entire Inauguration/President 2008 series was thought out. My What Really Grinds My Gears post was, I'll admit, written quickly. But I put some thought into it; and the subject had quite a long personal narrative as a back story.

And even though most of my writing may sound like its a train of thought, poorly or hastily structured... I actually do think about things before I write them.

But this post started with nothin, more nothin than any previous post on this whole blog. I didn't start with pictures, like Mak, or an issue to rage about, like House. Literally, the first thing I thought when I clicked on New Post was nothin. And the first thing I wrote, in the title, was nothin.

This blog has always been about me sharing thoughts and experiences. So this isn't me saying that nothin has happened since I last posted. But I also know that I can get some good practice by writing regularly as well. Right now, I'm practicing extemporaneous writing; sharing my thoughts on the fly without trying to reach into the last few hours of my life for a spark. And so far the lack of a spark coming to mind has allowed me to continue the nothin'ness of the post/moment.

related thought: did you ever have that English or Creative Writing teacher tell you that when you felt writer's block just to start with something? Even if that something was "I have nothin to write about and I'm experiencing anger at my teacher for making me write." This is that moment for me, getting through a little block and nothin'ness.

Totally agree with "nothing is something" and just writing is a great exercise. If you ever feel like taking the creative route: http://creativewritingprompts.com/
