Monday Round-Up

Since I only have little anecdotes, I'll call this a round-up.

The phrase round-up is used commonly; I most often see it in connection with some writing that a woman in my office does on election reform issues. If you're interested, follow this link.

A couple of friends' blog posts this week have sparked thought and conversation: The Desert of the Real being the site of one and Ed's trip to the football stadium (with a book) being another.

Speaking of books, after work yesterday I walked the mile (in the opposite direction of my house) to the post office to send off a grant proposal. And the post office was closed -- except for some bunk-ass automated postage machine, that made me write the return and to addresses myself. No what's automated about that?

After the post office mess, I walked to the local public library for a little LA times crossword action (photocopy, not on the library's public copy) and nearly took out this silly book called The God Delusion. And that got me thinking 'What's the fascination with taking down God these days, calling belief in God a Delusion?' I'm not going to play like God is my best friend, but God has its place in the world. Some Nation article, not this one but closely-related and more recent (though I can't find it online), reminded me that Atheism is entitled to its freedom of expression so long as it doesn't discount the belief of others. Though many people (Atheists and others), like Dawkins, do just that. What is hypocrisy if not that?

I didn't borrow the book cause it seems a little too much to read with Running with Scissors and The Pedagogy of the Oppressed on my shelf right now. To see Sea Shells' shelf, click here.

Freire, eh?

The top lab students (teenage geniuses) at debate camp were required to read Pedagogy of the Oppressed.
