Roses Take Over Blogs
I'm in Portland, Oregon. [See photo with poor resolution of Mt Hood behind the Portland skyline:]
After work, I went to a wine tasting today (my first). My co-worker and I drove a 3-mile stretch of dirt road to get to the building. The view was great - over some valley where the pacific breezes come in (which we could smell) and the greenery overflowed. The winery's whole staff numbered half a dozen, much smaller than I would have thought; and a dog was one of those on the payroll, too.
We tasted six of the place's regular wines and one dessert wine. The place's rep, Cathy, sounded new on the job but was highly qualified to get people drunk and get some money out of them. Van Duzer was the name of the place. And Cathy (who talked about her caffeine high and a thousand other things) served us chocolates in addition to the wine.
After the tasting my co-worker, Nyana, convinced me that running up and down about 30 yards of steep hill would suffice as my track workout. So we ran around a grassy hill after sipping wine around sunset in rural Oregon (the vineyard is outisde Salem). Pretty dreamy for a hippy...
Rode the city trains, too. Considering the total population of Portland, I'd say a ton of people here ride the thing. And people ride bikes, too.

Either my freshman or sophomore year we mixed hills and acohol. It was at the UPenn touranment party, which was GW dominated like ultimate parties usually were 1999-2002. There was a hill and a keg. The game was leave your beer behind and roll down this huge ass hill, when you get to the bottom sprint back up and chug your beer. Cheating to get to the top was encouraged. The hardest/near impossible part was trying to steady yourslef and your brain once you got back to your beer. It might have been the dangerous hill game. Ed? You were probably really good at the dangerous part. It was the same night they let GW members take the keg back to some American girls hotel room and Dirty hooked up with the girl who looked like a horse.
remember the 03 or 04 Penn State party's band... guitarists twice our age... and how they merged every over-played funk song with 'Its Getting Hot in Here?'
Then Ed got sick and Glowworm got punched at his own friend's frat house.
It was the 03 tournament. We stayed at that sketchy frat house and big worm's boys got into a big fight. We left the next morning never to return. I remember despretly trying to drive back to DC in time to catch J5 playing on the quad. Ah, good times, good times. And yes, the game was called dangerous hill game. awesome.
That was the tournament when Codrea left a mess on my windshield.
