Been to New Orleans

ACORN's 2006 Year End Year Beginning conference was held in New Orleans, La. Our local chapters had deep roots in the city before Hurricane Katrina and immediately began organizing afterwards, too. The conference's location was picked for political and sentimental reasons; and the workshops/presentations gave us a good sense of the entire organization, with a little 'N'awlins' flavor every now and then.

I filled my free days along the trip with house-gutting and city-walking, the Thursday before and Monday after the conference, respectively.

I have some pictures of the trip. Some are digital (thanks to Danielle and Traci) and some are stored on a disposable (I'll hopefully post those later).

The eight of us were a mix of ACORN Housing and volunteers, with our crew leader not pictured. I wish I could name everyone and put our site on a map, but my memory/research skills need honing.

Between Friday and Sunday, ACORN met to discuss the past year and share ideas on the coming 12 months. For meals and fun, we were on our own; the Bourbon street night life and the whole town was quite the experience.
